These months are perfect for safaris and beach excursions, thanks to the pleasant climate and outstanding wildlife viewing. However, be prepared for elevated hotel prices and busier parks and attractions.
This time strikes a balance with moderate hotel rates and fewer crowds. While the weather can be unpredictable and some attractions may have limited access due to rain, you can still enjoy excellent wildlife sightings and a more tranquil safari experience.
Ideal for those on a budget, the low season offers the most affordable hotel rates and the least crowded parks. Although heavy rains can impact travel plans, they also create a lush and vibrant landscape that enhances the beauty of your surroundings.
Some dose of history to ick-off your Zanzibar visit: When the Portuguese arrived in 1498, they found on the coast a series of independent towns, inhabited by Arabs, but not united to Arabia by any political tie. Their relations with these Arabs were mostly hostile, but during the sixteenth century they firmly established their power, and ruled with the aid of tributary Arab sultans. This system lasted till 1631, when the Sultan of Mombasa massacred the European inhabitants.
In the morning, you’ll explore Stone Town with a professional guide: a labyrinth of coral stone buildings, lively markets, and UNESCO-listed sites like the Old Slave Market and the Sultan’s Palace. Later, head out to a spice plantation, where you’ll learn about cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla through an interactive tour of the farm. Return to your hotel in the afternoon for some relaxation and a leisurely evening.
Your day begins with a trip to the Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, home to the rare and playful Red Colobus Monkeys. After a guided forest walk, you will explore the mangrove boardwalks nearby. In the afternoon, you will visit a traditional Swahili village, where you can experience authentic local life, interact with the villagers, and learn about traditional crafts and daily activities.
Enjoy a scenic boat ride to the turquoise waters near Pungume Island, where you’ll snorkel over colorful coral reefs and relax on a remote sandbank. A freshly prepared picnic lunch awaits you in this idyllic setting before returning to your hotel in the afternoon.
Today is all about relaxation. Spend your time lounging on the powdery white sands of Paje or Jambiani Beach. You may choose to swim, sunbathe, or simply walk along the endless shoreline. If you prefer not to spend this day resting, we can also organize a personalized program just for you!
After breakfast, you will head toward the peaceful and scenic Michamvi Peninsula, home to some of Zanzibar’s most pristine beaches. Spend the day relaxing on the stunning shores of Pingwe and Michamvi Kae, where powdery white sands and crystal-clear waters invite you to swim, stroll, or simply unwind under the swaying palms.
In the late afternoon, you will experience one of Zanzibar’s most breathtaking sunsets, watching as the sky transforms into a canvas of vivid colors over the Indian Ocean.
To complete this perfect day, you will enjoy dinner at the world-famous The Rock Restaurant – one of Zanzibar’s most iconic dining spots.
Set atop a natural coral rock in the Indian Ocean, The Rock seems to float magically on the water during high tide. Accessible by foot at low tide or by a short boat ride during high tide, this unique restaurant offers a truly unforgettable experience. Savor freshly prepared seafood dishes while surrounded by panoramic views of the ocean, creating a magical and romantic setting that will undoubtedly become one of the highlights of your trip.
You will travel north to the vibrant Nungwi Beach area, known for its expansive sandy beaches and lively atmosphere. Spend the day at your leisure: swim, explore the local markets, or enjoy a refreshing drink at one of the beachfront cafes.
Catch an early domestic flight to mainland Tanzania. Upon arrival, your safari guide will pick you up and head directly into Tarangire or Lake Manyara National Park, depending on the season and wildlife movements. Enjoy a full-day game drive, with the chance to see elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, and more. Overnight at a cozy safari lodge near the Ngorongoro Highlands.
Rise early for a magical morning in the Ngorongoro Crater, often called the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” This enormous volcanic caldera is home to the Big Five and an incredible variety of wildlife. After the game drive and lunch, transfer to the airport for your flight back to Zanzibar. Return to your beach hotel for a relaxing final evening.
After a leisurely breakfast, you will have some free time to enjoy your final moments on the island before your private transfer takes you to Zanzibar Airport for your return flight home, bringing back unforgettable memories of your Zanzibar journey.
